Making winter comfy and cosy

Love winter or hate it? If you live in a colder country like we do, then embracing winter and making it comfy and cosy may be the best thing to do. Our collaborative post has some good ideas on how to make that happen.

winter

No matter what your opinion on the winter might be, whether you’re a huge fan of getting snuggled up when it’s chilly, or you can’t wait for the summer to come back, there’s no denying that it’s not really any fun if you’re unable to get comfortable. After all, the positive idea of winter is almost always one built around getting cosy and comfy in your home while the weather rages outside. Well, if you’re not able to do that then winter’s going to be a pretty unpleasant time for you. But don’t worry, trying to achieve that level of comfort can be much easier than you might expect. Here are a few simple things to help you get comfy this winter.

Invest in blankets

Here’s a secret to being comfy during the winter: there is literally no such thing as having too many blankets. Seriously, if you don’t have any blankets in your home, go and get some! And if you already have blankets in your home, go and get some more! The reality is that you’re never going to find yourself in a position where you’re sitting in bed in the middle of winter, and you think “gosh! I really wish I was less snug and warm right now!” Go out and get yourself some think, cosy blankets and bury yourself under them like a bear hibernating for the winter!

Re-fill your couch cushions

Since you’re probably going to be spending a lot more time indoors that you did during the warmer months, it helps to make your home as comfortable as possible. One of the best ways to do that is to make sure that your couch cushions are all properly filled. After all, if you want to get snuggled up on the sofa then you really don’t want it to be lumpy or sagging at all. If you don’t want to hire someone to fill it for you, then you can always get some foam cut to size and fill it yourself. That way you can be sure that you’ll always have somewhere comfy to sit when it’s too cold to go outside.

Keep your home warm

Of course, the last thing you want is to try and get comfy, and then your home feels like one huge ice cube! Sure, it can help you save money to avoid putting on your heating but spending a little bit extra is a small price to pay for not having to spend every hour of the day feeling as though your fingers and toes are about to drop off. The best times to get your heating going is just before you wake up and just before you get home from work. That way you’re never going to feel like your house has suddenly turned into an igloo.

The key to a comfy winter is to make sure that you’re never in a position where it feels as though the cold from outside is invading your home. Your home should feel like a castle where you can escape from the outside world, even if that’s just for a little while.
